The Hingham Harborwomen are off to a strong start this season holding steady at first in the state in Division 1 with a perfect 13-0 record just coming up on halfway point in their season. After a devastating loss last year in the Elite Eight to Malden Catholic the experienced Harborwomen team, led by captains Caroline Doherty, Helen Concannon, Addy Garrity, and CC Flynn, has the state championship in mind and is making strides to get there.
Hearing some players give their opinions on the successes of the season, the passion and competitive energy is obvious. Junior second line forward, Katie Teague, contributes the Harborwomen’s winnings so far to that, “I think we are winning because our team is really close, and we are all really determined this season.” It has been evident since tryouts that there is something special about this group and you can see it on and off the ice. Sophomore defenseman Reagan Leiphart reinforces this point stating, “I am so proud of our team. Every practice we put in so much effort and more importantly we have such a good connection off the ice as well to build great friendships.”
The Harborwomen have taken home three trophies so far to date, the first being in a preseason tournament in Vermont where the skill of this Hingham team was first displayed on the ice and the team went undefeated on the weekend, winning the championship. The Tenney Cup followed winning the Duxbury Tournament at the bog. The schedule did not get any easier from there and more recently Hingham has faced their rival NDA, not once but twice, and the second time they reclaimed the Hingham Cup for the first time in years. Despite remarkable success so far in the season, the focus is still set on States as the girls continue to practice game situations for the competition they will face as playoff season approaches.
The Hingham Harborwomen are the team to watch in the upcoming weeks leading up to the playoff season and they continue to get press from newspapers such as; The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The Patriot Ledger, Hockey Night in Boston, and The Wicked Local. It will be exciting to see where the team takes the rest of the season on their road to the garden, and hopefully to their fourth championship.
