Super Bowl XLIX: What you need to know

Super Bowl XLIX: What you need to know

1) If you don’t know who to root for and you rely on Las Vegas to make your picks, this is going to be quite hard for you. The latest line that has come out (Thursday morning) has the Patriots favored to beat the Seahawks by the slimmest of margins, one point. The line makes sense since the Patriots offense is one of the best in the NFL going up against the Seattle Seahawks and the Legion of Boom secondary, one of the better secondaries in the league. Tom Brady and the New England have experience and the wits to win but Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson may not be too wise like Brady but he has the skill set and speed to beat the Pats. This is going to be a close one in real life and in Vegas.

2) Before watching the Super Bowl, you might be a little shy to ask this, but you may ask yourself, “ Does the team who wins really get a giant Super Bowl?” The answer to this question is no. The victorious team actually gets the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Lombardi was a head coach back in the day for the Green Bay Packers. The Super Bowl trophy is named after Lombardi because he virtually revolutionized the game of football. This scenario is pretty ironic because if the Seahawks win, they would almost be stealing “history” from the Green Bay Packers organization, one of Seattle’s most recent rivalries.

3) For those who are wondering why Super Bowl commercials are so important, here’s a hint: money. The average cost for just a thirty second ad is a whopping 4.5 million dollars. The money gets distributed between, of course, the actors and the network from a given company. Another reason for their importance is for sure how many launches of commercials there are. Almost all the commercials are premieres on television and usually inspire the audience or make them laugh. Lastly, the commercials are a way to easily get the word out on the products since the Super Bowl is easily one of the most watched sporting events in the world other than the World Cup for soccer.
