Hillary Clinton Announces Presidential Bid

This week has been a busy one for Hillary Rodham Clinton. On Sunday, April 12th, Mrs. Clinton announced that she would run for the presidency once again in 2016. Consequently, she embarked on one of the least contested races for the Democratic presidential nomination in recent history.

Clinton announced her candidacy in a two-minute video released just after three p.m. on Sunday. The first ninety seconds of the video prominently featured diverse individuals, including gay and African American couples, taking a new, big step in each of their lives. Near the end of the video, Clinton herself appeared and announced, “I’m getting ready to do something too. I’m running for president”.

Mrs. Clinton’s campaign plan appears to have begun on a small scale before escalating to a large campaign likely to cost more than any previous presidential bid. Through releasing the video, she also got off to a strong start as she attempted to connect with younger voters and demonstrated an understanding of modern technology and social media.

Clinton’s declaration of candidacy was followed by intimate campaign events in Iowa. Also, Tuesday was National Equal Pay Day which provided Mrs. Clinton with a platform to address pay inequality, a central theme of her candidacy. The presidential candidate plans to travel to New Hampshire on Monday for additional intimate campaign events.

However, despite months and possibly even years of planning, Clinton’s entrance into the race was not completely tarnish free. A scandal remains regarding her use of a private email while working at the State Department. Also, questions were raised about foreign donations received by her family’s philanthropic foundation. The campaign chairman, John D. Podesta, assured donors that both controversies would pass after Clinton officially announced her candidacy.
