With the trees changing colors and shedding their leaves, the height of Fall is upon us. In case you are looking for some fun fall-themed activities this season, here are a few you will not want to miss out on:

Pumpkin Carving

Whether decorating for Halloween or just spicing up your front steps for the holiday season, carving pumpkins is an essential Fall tradition. Gather some friends or even the whole family and head over to your local garden shop or grocery store to choose your gourd, then select your favorite design and spend the day carving away!

Apple Picking

A season favorite, apple picking proves a perfect activity to head out into nature for the day. Take a peek at CN Smith Farm or another nearby option and spend some time climbing trees and collecting fruit! After strolling through the orchards, you will have plenty of apples to snack on!

Baking

Speaking of apples…With your bounty of hand-picked fruits, there are endless options for delicious desserts and snacks. With the colorful leaves and chill in the air comes pumpkin and apple everything! Junior Mia Hull relates, “I love all the cinnamon and apple flavors because it makes me feel like it’s finally Fall! I’m very excited for hot apple cider and apple cider donuts!” Cozying up from the chilly wind, take a break and try out a new recipe such as Apple Cider DonutsApple CrispPumpkin Muffins, or Butternut Squash Soup!

Walk/Run/Hike

Free from the blistering heat of the summer, now is the perfect time to try out a new trail or get back into jogging! With the resources of Bare Cove, Worlds End, Wompatuck State Park, and even Blue Hills right at our fingertips, there is no lack of places to explore! Senior Deirdre O’Donnell reports, “I look forward to running in the fall because while running in Wompatuck there are always so many pretty colors on the trees and it’s never too hot or too cold!” If you want to stretch your legs and try out a fall run, a plethora of fun races pop up right around Thanksgiving. Both bright and early on Turkey Day morning, the Weymouth Dreamcatcher offers a 5 mile and 2-mile course, while Hingham’s own Cross Country and Track teams host the Turkey Trot 5k!

Movie Night!

If you love horror movies, fall is your time to shine. But even if you don’t, fall is full of familiar favorites! Grab some blankets and snacks and set up a viewing party with friends and family! Craving something scary? Try “Children of the Corn” or “Silence of the Lambs”. Looking for something a bit more upbeat? Take a look at “Coraline”, “Hocus Pocus”, or “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. Not so Halloween-themed? “Little Women” and “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” prove fan favorites.

Whether one of these ideas sparks your interest or you already have a fun-filled Fall in the works, be sure to step outside and appreciate the beauty of the clementines, reds, and yellows of the trees. Wishing you all a happy Fall season!
