This past Saturday, March 8th, the number one Harborwomen Hockey team played at Gallo Rink against the number four seed North Andover. The student section was packed as always, with students dressed in red to support. Likewise, the Hingham Harborwomen came ready to play. The team scored three times in the first, and left North Andover with none. The Harborwomen scored again with a goal from Captain Caroline Doherty, extending the lead to 4-0. However, the Scarlet Knights quickly came back, scoring twice in the second period, and once at the beginning of the third. Thankfully, the Harborwomen were able to create some ease with a goal from Addy Garrity in the third period. Sophomore Izzy Puelo had a phenomenal third period, stopping many of the Knights’ offensive advances, and allowing the Harborwomen to keep the lead. Hingham won 5-3, with goals from Callie Crean, Caroline Doherty, and Addy Garrity, advancing them to the State Championship.
The MIAA D1 Girls’ Hockey State Championship will be Sunday, March 16th. Hingham will face the 15th seed Bishop Stang, in an exciting game at 11 AM at TD Garden. This opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime possibility for many, if not all, of the players on the Hingham Girls Hockey Team. Sophomore Shea Richardson states that, “Playing at TD Garden means so much to us. It is a great testament to how hard we have worked to be in this position and we are looking forward to taking it all in and appreciating each moment, especially with the seniors.” As this is such an important game, the team is also preparing thoroughly. Senior Captain Helen Concannen expresses, “We have had a full week of practices before the game. We are working hard and taking in every single moment at practice. Us seniors, especially, are getting nostalgic every practice we joke and say ‘last Monday practice EVER, last Tuesday practice ever.’ Even having to wake up at 4 AM for those Friday practices, it is all worth it to get to play in such an exciting game.”
Each Harborwomen player’s dedication and commitment to the team has led them to be so successful this season. Their hard work needs to be celebrated and cheered on at their big game this weekend. Make sure to buy your tickets on Ticketmaster, and show up in red to support the team. Go Harborwomen!!
