Everyone, including teachers and faculty, at Hingham High School is very excited for April vacation. We all love to just kick back, not worry about any schoolwork, and relax. Many students travel away from home to relax. A lot of students said similar spots, but there were some unique destinations. Here are some popular places where students are traveling.
- Florida
There are so many students at HHS going to Florida for April vacation. Specifically, there is a large number of people going to Naples, not that I blame them. Naples is a very nice part of Florida with its many beaches, golf courses, and calm atmosphere. Many people travel to Florida to see family, tan, or swim. Makayla Margetts said, “I’m going to Florida this year for April vacation, and I am very excited to swim!” Many other students agreed with her statement, as most people love to go in the water on a sunny day (which it usually is in Florida).
- Tropical Countries
A couple students are going to tropical countries, including myself. A couple of students are traveling to Costa Rica, a jungle and beach destination. It is a common pattern for many people and families in Hingham to go to tropical places for vacation because of the occasional harsh—and always changing—weather in Hingham.
- Peru Trip
Students from all different grades are going to Peru for the school trip. The students that I’ve talked to about the trip were very excited about going. The students going will experience one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu up in the mountains of Peru. The students will see Machu Picchu, visit Maras Salt Ponds (terraced earthen pools), and swap friendship bracelets with alpacas. Although the students are very excited, some are nervous about the restrictions and laws in Peru. In Peru, it is illegal to be homosexual, own a drone, and use single-use plastic. While it is not illegal to wear tank tops or mildly revealing clothing, it is discouraged.
- Staycation
The majority of students are staying home and relaxing. Students either expressed their joy to stay home, or their disappointment in staying. Some students still have sports happening over break, so many of them are staying due to that, including varsity lacrosse goalie Lila Donoghue. She says, “I’m going to stay in Hingham, and I’m going to be practicing and playing lacrosse.” The students staying home are hoping for good weather and hopefully high UV.
April vacation offers a break from the stresses of school, and many students are spending it with classmates, family, and friends in many different places.
