A disastrous start in Boston, the Red Sox started 2-8 in their first 10 games, tying a 126-year low and only the ninth time in history starting that bad. With fans in terror as they chant “Sell the Team” during the opening series at home, and many defensive miscues like the Marcelo Mayer and Trevor Story positional battle, Colin Keane from Bosox Injection describes, “Story has always been a smooth defender, but Mayer looks even smoother, and he’s also more than 10 years younger. Story had an impressive season defensively for almost all of 2025, but he started to wear down at the end of the campaign, leading to an uptick in errors.”
The Boston pitching cycle is arguably the strongest in the league, with many people thinking this will help them big time during the season. But with a rough start, many people’s views are taking a turn for the worse. Peter Ford, a junior at HHS, describes, “I am a big Red Sox fan, and it is really disappointing to watch my team struggle this badly, especially with all of these great pitchers.”
With offensive spark and an important new face, Wilson Contreras, the righty first baseman has been a very bright spot, providing the right-hand power that the team needed. Also, young talent like Jarren Durran and Roman Anthony have been major turning points for this organization. Anthony, the former number one MLB prospect, has looked incredible; the 6”3 200 pound right fielder has generational talents, which could help the Red Sox as he develops in the near future. He is so talented that fans call him “The Roman Empire.”
So what does the future look like for the Red Sox? As of right now, the Red Sox are 7-11, meaning that they are only a couple of wins back from the top spot in a packed AL East with many teams hovering around .500. So even though they started rough, there are many more opportunities for the Sox to turn it around and get back on their feet.
I asked another Red Sox fan their thoughts on how they think the Red Sox will do this season. Colin Casey, a junior at HHS, states, “I have grown up a huge Red Sox fan, and I think that even though they had a rough start, they have all the weapons to turn it around and win some big games.”
Looking ahead, the Red Sox play the New York Yankees for a big rivalry matchup at home starting on the 21st of April; this will be a real test for the Red Sox.
