The shortened week of October 13th will be filled with excitement for Hingham High School. Starting with Indigenous People’s Day and ending in Homecoming, students are also looking forward to the mix-up in routine due to the new flexblock pilot, and now, Spirit Week!
Coming off of the long weekend, Tuesday will bring the return of Beach vs. Country Club, where students can choose between khakis, polos, and crossed sweaters, or shorts, flip-flops, and towels. It was only a month ago when the two outfits clashed, but due to the day’s popularity, it has made an early return!
On Wednesday, the four grades battle in Color Wars. Freshmen will wear green, sophomores blue, juniors purple, and seniors black. Of course, everyone has their favorite colors for clothes, so the complaints on assignments have already started.
Disgruntled Junior Winter Griffin remarked that if he wants to participate, “Probably not purple, I’d rather be wearing black like the seniors.”
Either way, the only way to truly know which group won is how the hallways are painted and decorated come Wednesday.
Thursday will be honoring HHS’s seniors, wearing Harbor Bowl jerseys in anticipation of the event’s second-ever installment! Two teams of ~20 senior girls will compete in a match of flag football for bragging rights, all while having a blast among friends, family, and a coaching staff of football players.
Finally, Friday leads into Homecoming with the classic display of Hingham pride: Red Out! This time, the whole student body will be united in dressing in red from head to toe.
Noel Eigenmann, when asked what his favorite day will be, commented: “I feel like Red Out, if everyone participates, will be very cool.”
After all, the point of this outfit organization is to bring students together with encouraging, unifying, and exciting themes, plus the memorable pep rally events, including Human Hungry Hippo, Knockout, musical chairs, and pop the balloon.
This year, Student Council has been doing a particularly great job of promoting the themes, with random interviews pop-quizzing students on their knowledge. On TikTok, @hhs_stco_ exposed who did and who did not have school spirit.

As everyone is expected to memorize and wear these outfits, many are left to wonder who gets to decide, and why do they pick these specific themes?
Ultimately, the decision comes down to Student Council. Senior member Kylie McAloon explained, “The Stuco board works with the spirit committee heads to plan the themes of spirit week. They choose the themes based on what they think people would participate in and which are different from the year before.”
