Hingham High School’s Girls Volleyball program has had a great start to their 2024 fall season. Varsity has a talented roster this year featuring many new players which has made for an exciting and successful first few weeks of the season. Their current record is 4-4 with match wins against Cohasset, Marshfield, Plymouth North, and Hanover. Despite a loss to Duxbury this past Wednesday after a well-fought match, the team hopes to add another win to their record on Monday at Silver Lake. This is a remarkable team, and the players have an unmatched passion for the game that never fails to show.
The 2024 Varsity team captains, Caroline Shelsy, Kate Walsh, and Olivia Tamburro have done an amazing job so far as leaders of the program in uniting their team and encouraging them to perform their very best. When asked about her goals as a team captain and senior this year on Varsity, Kate Walsh says, “I love being a positive person and a leader for my teammates. I want to be someone who they can count on.” The program strives for good sportsmanship and leadership which has been seen in the exciting matches already underway.
The Junior Varsity team has had a great season so far with their 6-2 record, with their most recent win against Hanover. The team was defeated by Duxbury this past Wednesday but is definitely capable of winning their next match on Monday against Silver Lake. The team has a great line up with skilled players who love the game and will hopefully be returning to the program next year.
The new Freshman team is going strong with a 7-1 record with their most recent win being against Duxbury in the 3rd set this past Wednesday. They’ve only had one loss against Whitman-Hanson and are set on a path for continued success. These girls are gifted players who have a passion for the game and will benefit from the program.
This past Wednesday at Hingham High School, the teams hosted a “Dig Turquoise” event in partnership with the HHS Cancer Kids First Club to raise money for those battling pediatric brain cancer. The game had a great turnout with local and family support as well as an energetic student section cheering for Hingham. The team will also be hosting their annual “Dig Pink” event coming up in October to raise money for those battling breast cancer. Varsity player Mia Sacco says, “The Dig Pink event is the best game of the season because all 3 teams get to play on the big court while raising money for a good cause”. The team is hoping for a great turnout at this event and for success during the rest of their season.
