Boston Medflight is a non-profit organization run by a consortium of highly advanced care facilities in Boston including, Tufts Medical Center, Boston Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Medflight provides advanced critical care to patients who need to be provided with a higher level of care by transporting them to more advanced care facilities; Medflight also works with local first responders to transport patients who are seriously sick or injured.

Boston Medflight has three stations in Eastern Massachusetts: Plymouth, Bedford, and Lawrence. These stations each have at least on helicopter, a ground ambulance, and an airplane, all of which are staffed by advanced healthcare professionals, including critical care transport nurses and paramedics, as well as having the most advanced emergency medicine equipment.

Medflight care providers patients with the highest level of care possible in the field. The personnel are trained in highly advanced medical techniques; the also have experience treating the seriously ill and injured. Medflight’s helicopter pilots are trained by Era Helicopters to work in high stress flight situations.  Pilots are also trained by IFR Operations to fly fixed wing aircrafts in high stress situations and over long distances.

Apart from their flight services, Medflight also operates ground ambulances outfitted with the same amount of advanced medical equipment and advanced caregivers found in one of Medflight’s aircraft. Boston Medflight’s ground ambulance provides another tier to the advanced care that they provide, as it allows patients who are seriously sick and injured to be provided care, when conditions are unsafe to fly.

Boston Medflight offers the SafeTeen program, a community outreach programs provided to local high schools in which Medflight simulates incidents in which students are injured from the dangers and consequences of distracted driving. This reenactment not only features a wrecked vehicle, but a landing Medflight helicopter and trucks of local first responders.

Boston Medflight’s service is an invaluable service to communities of all over New England. Without their contributions the health and welfare of the patients who were seriously ill or injured would have been in jeopardy. By providing patients with the level of care that Boston’s trauma centers provide, Medflight allows patients not only to have a better chance at life, but it increases the chance of them living with fewer complications from their injuries or illness.

Medflight connects patients with unparalleled pre-hospital care through the application of advanced life saving equipmen, by advanced care providers on one of the worst days of the patient’s life. The services Boston Medflight provides through their community outreach programs, as well as the advanced care they provide, is crucial to the communities throughout New England that they serve.  They will continue to be crucial for many years to come.
