The Hingham High School Pep Band has accompanied HHS Varsity Football at two home games this season, providing live music throughout the games. On September 18th, the pep band made its first appearance of the 2026-27 season during Hingham’s first home game against Abington. Most recently, the band returned on October 2nd to perform at the home game against Plymouth North.
The band sits on the right side of the bleachers, closest to the high school building, between the announcer’s box and The Red Army. The pep band opens with the “Star-Spangled Banner” following the bell-ringing ceremony. During time-outs and shorter intermissions, the band plays quick-hits, including “Go Team, Go,” “We Will Rock You,” and more! Selina Lin, a flutist in the band, states that, “These songs create an electric atmosphere that really makes the games even more exciting.”
For longer intermissions, such as half-time, the band plays “Seven Nation Army,” one of many enjoyed pieces among spectators. Lexa Sabattis, a trumpet player in the band, shares her perspective, “Pep band is a great passion driven program that allows people to bond together and find belonging within the community. I think playing pieces at football games displays the importance of collaboration and the hard work of the band.”
Behind the pep band’s success is Mr. Cincotta, whose dedication has shaped the program. He has put constant effort into preparing sheet music, practicing pep band pieces in class, rallying support from the HMPA, and bringing together over seventy participants for the debut game of the season. Additionally, for the October 2nd football game, Mr. Cincotta welcomed current eighth-grade students to participate. This opportunity allowed younger musicians to experience the excitement of performing at football games and feel included within the musical community.
Between the chants and themed attire from The Red Army, creative routines of the HHS Dance Team, and the upbeat music from the pep band, Hingham High brings tremendous spirit to football games. As the program continues to grow and welcome new musicians, Hingham Pep Band strives to make a greater impact in the town. Through every performance, the pep band fuels school spirit, one song at a time!
