Hingham 2023 Unified Track team

As all Hingham High School sports kick off their teams at the start of spring, unified track members show their excitement to commence another great season. Sophomore member of unified track Sydney Steele says, “With this season being my first time joining Unified Sports, I can’t wait to start and get to know the team!”

Unified Sports have been at Hingham High School for a few years now and have really shown true success throughout the school and the league itself. Unified Sports including a fall basketball team and a spring track team integrate students with and without intellectual disabilities. The inclusion and commitment from every team member is outstanding on every unified team. Sophomore member of both Unified track and basketball teams Tommy Hartnett describes, “I really love getting to know each and every one of my teammates. The Unified teams are such a great experience and making everyone feel included is so important.” The sports environment has become a place where every student is able to thrive and always feel welcomed.

On Wednesday, March 20th, the track team had their first meeting of the season held in the High School. Coach Eby and Coach Stanley organized this first meeting after school.  Before jumping into athletics, their meeting consisted of ice breaker games, introductions, discussion of the schedule and meets, and much more! Sophomore member of the team Brooke Pryor says, “The meeting on Wednesday was a great kick off to the season! The best part for me was going around the room and getting to know a little bit about all of my new teammates, I can’t wait to get more into the 2024 season.”

Further into the season, the team will compete at many local meets both home and away, compete at sectionals, and compete at states. The team will also have a field day with pizza and snacks to celebrate the team’s seniors and accomplishments. Finally, the team ends off with a family banquet to recognize the athlete’s achievements and efforts. Wishing the best of luck to the unified track team this upcoming spring season!
