As the winter sports season comes to a close, the Hingham-Hull Gymnastics team has a lot to be proud of as they prepare for their final meet. Despite the fact there may not be a lot of gymnasts on the team, and Hingham gymnastics has to combine with the Hull gymnastics team to exist, they have been extremely successful over the past few months. The girls will be finishing their regular season undefeated for the first time in years. They beat their rivals, the Marshfield Rams, earlier in the season and the team recently broke the Hingham High School record by almost a full point. While all-around competitors, senior Sienna Besser and freshman Grace Whiting have played a major role in the team’s achievements, all of the gymnasts have worked hard and achieved high scores contributing to the teams success.
The Hingham-Hull gymnastics team has built such an encouraging and supportive atmosphere for the girls to succeed in, and the coaches have been caring and helpful throughout the season. When Charlotte Passeggio, a freshman, was asked about her experience on the team, she said, “The team is extremely close and everyone is so supportive of each other. Our head and assistant coaches are both motivating and some of the nicest people I have met. When I joined as a freshman this year, I had no problem getting comfortable with everyone as they were just so friendly and welcoming. Being so successful in my first year has been a great experience as well. The team itself could not have been better.”
Similarly, when I asked freshman Grace Whiting about her experience, she shared, “This season has been the highlight of my freshman year. The coaches are supportive, caring, and a lot of fun! The team is so welcoming and everyone enjoys being together. I love competing every week, and going to the practices are usually the highlight of my day. Everyone has put in so much effort and they are so dedicated.”
Unfortunately the girl’s final meet is Friday the 7th, but with the success they have had this year, they may have a chance to move on to sectionals; something no gymnastics team in the Hingham High School history has ever done.
