On November 22nd, the famous Broadway musical, Wicked, was released as a movie. Over the past year, the trailers and teases for the new movie have made movie-goers eager to watch the new film. Starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, Wicked has taken over the internet and entertained viewers.
Primarily known as a Broadway Musical, the production is based on two girls who attended Shiz University. Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, was born with green-colored skin and experienced many struggles throughout her life. When she arrived at Shiz, her assigned roommate was Glinda, played by Ariana Grande. Throughout the production, their growing friendship helped Elphaba reach her dream of meeting the Wizard of Oz. Finally, the well-known play became a movie— a welcome surprise for Broadway fans.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Wicked created a crowd of people excited to watch. Finally, fans were let in to view the new film last Friday. Overall, many people were delighted with the movie. Well-known actress and singer, Ariana Grande did an amazing job playing Glinda the Good Witch, representing her amazing vocals and hilarious humor. Cynthia Erivo also greatly played the role of Elphaba or the Wicked Witch of The West, representing her jaw-dropping vocals and heart-warming acting. Junior, Tessa Grossman, went to the theaters on Saturday, November 23rd, and mentioned, “The atmosphere was spectacular and all actors did an amazing job playing each of their roles. I have watched the original play, and the director perfectly turned it into a film!”
Other actors who played major roles in Wicked were Jonathan Bailey who played Prince Fiyero, Glinda’s lover. Another actor who stunned the audience was Jeff Goldblum who played the Wizard of Oz. The movie contained many surprises and shocks to the audience that made it even more spectacular. Actors from the main Broadway cast of Wicked, Idina Menzel, and Kristin Chenoweth were displayed in a scene. Finally, the movie came to an end with a cliffhanger, surprising the audience. This film was only the first part and should contain a second movie to finish the story. Sophomore, Kaylie Fabrizio, mentioned, “At first I was upset that the movie didn’t fully finish, but now I am so excited to wait for part two!”
Wicked is expected to win awards in the future and continue to gain a lot of attention this winter!
