Human Rights Day at HHS

Will Bierwirth, Contributing Writer

On Friday, December 12th, the Amnesty International Club at Hingham High School participated in National Human Rights Day. Amnesty took over the library and set up booths to present to fellow HHS classmates about topics that infringe on human rights around the world such as the Ferguson, Missouri conflict, ISIS, and the Hong Kong umbrella protests. In the words of senior and Amnesty member, Tyler Anderson, “Even though I was doing a presentation, hearing what other groups were saying really opened my eyes and it brought to my attention various conflicts around the world.” There was a presentation about the conflict in Ferguson, Missouri and Brett Anderson said, “It made me appreciate the fact that human rights abuses don’t just happen outside the U.S. borders.” The Amnesty Club at HHS took over the library and thoughtful minds of inquisitive Hingham High students.
