As we saw in 2023, the need for good writers and actors in film is necessary. Thankfully, the writer strike has concluded, and in 2024, many new fantastic movies are set to be released.
Sophomore Carolyn Downey remarked on her love for the movie theater, “The movies are a great place to go with your friends, and I’m excited to see what movies are going to come out this year.” Not ranked in any specific order, several highly-rated movies are coming out in 2024!
Mean Girls
A twist on the 2004 comedy Mean Girls (2024) is an adaptation of the Broadway Musical directed by famous comedian Tina Fey. Filled with music, dancing, and comedy, Mean Girls is rated PG-13 and a perfect movie to watch with friends! It is coming to theaters on January 12th, 2024.
Dune: Part Two
A Part Two to the dystopian film adaption of the book Dune by Frank Herbert, Dune: Part Two stars many famous names such as Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh. This sci-fi film will be released to theaters on March 1, 2024, and rated PG-13.
Back To Black
Opening on May 10, 2024, Back to Black focuses on pop star Amy Winehouse’s rise to fame. Sophomore Meghan Keonan shares her thoughts on the movie, “I have heard some of Amy’s songs and I’m interested to hear more about her early life.” Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson the movie is not yet rated and Marisa Abela plays the troubled singer.
Inside Out 2
The Pixar film Inside Out 2 is a sequel to the popular Inside Out film released in 2015. While Inside Out focuses on the emotions of fear, anger, disgust, sadness, and happiness in the mind of a young girl, Inside Out 2 focuses on a new emotion, anxiety, which appears when the girl grows older. This film is rated PG and will be released on June 14, 2024.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2024)
This film is the second part of an animated sequel to Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. These movies are highly regarded and loved by many in the Marvel Universe. The movie was initially scheduled to premiere in March of 2024, however, due to the writer’s strikes it will be released at a later date.
